When I first came across the NKJV New Testament Tracing Edition Bible, I was so excited and jumped at the chance to review it. Special thanks to Thomas Nelson Bibles/HCCP for providing a sample of the product for this review. Opinions are 100% my own.

Lately, I haven't been spending as much time in the Word as I would like, and I thought this would be a thoughtful way to slow down, focus, and spend more intentional time with Scripture. All too often, it's easy to just skim over familiar verses and quickly check off quiet time from the ever-growing to-do list. So the idea of tracing Scripture felt like a simple, hands-on way to pause and really pay attention to the words.

The NKJV New Testament, Tracing Edition is designed so you can trace the Scripture verse-by-verse directly on the page. The words are printed in a light gray color 17pt font, giving you a guide to follow as you trace over each verse.

I do think the concept is beautiful.

There is something meaningful about quieting your mind, slowing your hand down, and really focusing on each word. For someone who enjoys Scripture writing, Bible journaling, handwriting, or quiet devotional time, this could be a peaceful way to engage with the New Testament.

About the Bible

The Bible itself is a nice size. It is easy to hold, and it does not feel too bulky.

I really like how the spine is designed to lie completely flat when opened, making it easy for either left or right-handed individuals.

I can see it being a nice gift for someone who enjoys writing, devotional time, or creative ways to spend time with Scripture.

That said, I did have a few personal challenges with it.

Because I wear glasses and have some visual issues, the light gray tracing text was a little harder for me than I expected. Although the text is legible, I found myself wishing the Bible came in a larger font size or had a little more contrast on the page.

I also tend to write big, so tracing within the provided space felt tight for me. Someone with smaller handwriting may not have the same issue, but for me, it was a little difficult to keep my letters neat and inside the tracing area. I used this ballpoint pen for my initial journaling in the Bible.

So while I really like the idea behind this Bible, I think it may work better for some people than others.

If you have smaller handwriting, do well with lighter print, and like guided Scripture writing, this may be a lovely option for you. But if you prefer larger print, need more visual contrast, or naturally write bigger, those are things I would consider before purchasing.

Overall, I appreciate the heart behind the NKJV New Testament, Tracing Edition. It invites you to slow down with Scripture instead of rushing through it, and I think that is a beautiful thing.

Personally, for me, the smaller format and light tracing text made it harder to use than I hoped, but I'll still be incorporating it into my quiet time. And, I think it could be a meaningful resource for both new and mature believers. I can also see it being a great activity to do with your family; giving each member certain passages to trace would make it a wonderful keepsake.
